The Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISSE) of the University of Technologies Clausthal is hiring a 

Research assistant in the field of digitized AI-based classification, 
sorting, and logistics 

(if the personal requirements are fulfilled EG 13 TV-L)

at first for a 3-year duration. The job offer is basically part time suitable.

The activity encompasses the design, research, and development of smart AI-based, digitized robotics-assisted sorting systems for products to support product recycling cycles with connected goods logistics. These systems are designed to enable the targeted reuse of products, components, and resources through AI-based classification and automated sorting, and to transport them to potential reusers via suitable logistics chains. This includes the integration of individual stakeholder requirements and their representation by digital agents for the intelligent linking of logistics orders. In particular, the research focuses on the intelligent and sustainable linking of classification systems with automated sorting systems and logistics carriers. To this end, we can draw on the institute's own research infrastructure with its own dismantling and sorting facility, enabling us to test concepts directly.

Your tasks are: 

  • Requirements definition, survey and documentation
  • Processing of research projects
  • Research into automation concepts at our sorting and dismantling facility
  • Design and creation of digitized logistics systems for product utilization cycles in line with the circular economy
  • Piloting of research approaches together with project partners
  • Publication of your research results at national and international conferences
  • Support in the preparation of lectures, supervision of exercises and scientific work by students 

Your profile:

  • Successful degree (Master's, Diploma) in the field of computer science, software systems engineering, automation engineering, digital technologies or comparable qualification

  • Openness to varied and exciting topics and tasks in the field of digitized circular economy

  • Independent, structured way of working and quick comprehension; ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new concepts

  • Enjoyment of scientific work in a cross-domain context

  • High level of communication skills

  • Outstanding skills in agile project management and the application of workshop methods

  • Good knowledge of object orientation and at least basic knowledge of UML

  • Knowledge of minimum one programming language (e.g. C++, Python, Java)

  • Experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS)

  • Good knowledge of machine learning (e.g., in the areas of object detection and identification, generative AI, etc.)

  • Good written and spoken English skills (min. level B2)

  • Good written and spoken German skills (min. level B2)
