All oral and written examinations must be registered via the online examination system (study portal). In the case of oral examinations, please inform your responsible administrator of the specific date by e-mail, stating your personal details (matriculation number, name, degree program, examination, examiner).
As soon as you meet the admission requirements for the thesis (these can be found in your implementation regulations; for Master's theses, any conditional examinations must also be successfully completed) and have discussed a suitable topic with your first supervisor, please register at the Examinations Office using the form"Application for admission to the thesis".
If you would like to write an external thesis, please also read the information on: "What do I have to consider when writing an external thesis".
Your application for admission will be checked as soon as possible at the Examinations Office.
If admission is possible, the thesis will be registered in the examination system and a separate form will be sent to your first assessor to inform them of the topic, submission deadline and second assessor.
Once the form has been received back from the institute, you will then receive the official letter of admission by email with all the important information (you should also read this urgently).
An "external" thesis is when the thesis is completed in a company.
If you are a student from the Mechanical/Process Engineering Study Commission, you must apply for an external thesis separately in advance. To do this, please submit the form"Application for the preparation of an external thesis by the Study Commission for Mechanical and Process Engineering" to the Examinations Office. You may only start your thesis once your application has been approved. Please also note that an external thesis (Bachelor's or Master's thesis) is only permitted once (see decisions of the Examination Board).
Students from other degree programs do not have to apply separately for an external thesis. In this case, it is sufficient to submit the"Application for admission to final thesis".
Please note that external theses are generally assessed and evaluated by your two chosen TU Clausthal supervisors. This means that the supervisors assigned by the company cannot issue a grade. The supervisors must also have at least the qualification you are aiming for with your thesis (i.e. Bachelor's or Master's degree).
If you can provide evidence of valid reasons, you should first clarify with your first assessor whether they agree to an extension. If consent has been given, please submit an application for an extension to the Examinations Office.
If you are affected by the maximum duration of study, please clarify this immediately with your administrator at the Examinations Office to find out what options are available in your case.
Please submit the following form immediately (but no later than 1 week after the certificate has been issued): "Withdrawal for health reasons / Medical certificate for students (from WS 2022/2023)" to the Examinations Office.
The Examination Board will check whether and to what extent the period of illness (taking into account the symptoms) can be counted towards the extension of the submission deadline.
Please note that illnesses claimed retroactively cannot be taken into account!
Illnesses shortly before the submission deadline cannot usually be taken into account either. In such cases, please contact your examination office directly.
Once you have completed your thesis, please take care of the binding work. You can arrange for your thesis to be bound in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, e.g. at ASTA, Papierflieger or Papierflitzer. Of course, you can also use any other provider.
You can find out how many bound copies of your thesis you need to submit to the Examination Office in your letter of admission (or Appendix 1 of the letter).
You can submit the bound version(s) of your thesis to the Examinations Office during office hours or by prior appointment. Please also bring the completed supplementary sheet with you for submission. Please arrange appointments in advance by telephone or e-mail with the Examinations Office.
If possible, you should also send the digital version of your thesis (PDF format) via Cryptshare to the following recipients shortly before submission to the Examinations Office:
First assessor, second assessor and Examinations Office(pruefungsamt@tu-clausthal.de).
If you send the thesis by post, please use the following address:
Examination Office of Clausthal University of Technology
Adolph-Roemer-Straße 2a
38678 Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
Please keep the proof of posting as proof of timely dispatch (no later than the submission deadline).
Conditional examinations cannot be registered online, but are only possible using the form. This must be submitted to the Examinations Office at least 2 weeks before the examination date.
At present, only written examinations (online), oral examinations (online and appointment registration at the Examinations Office) and the final thesis (via form) must be registered.
Certificates of achievement only need to be registered in the examination system if they have to be completed in the form of a written or oral examination.
These services must be registered via StudIP. or institute. Please note the individual regulations and deadlines of the institutes. After the course has been completed, the examination office will be sent a list of all credits to be recorded.
In these cases, please also register in good time using the "Application for admission to examinations" form. In the months of April/May and October/November in particular, online examination registration is temporarily unavailable due to system or examination period changes. Oral examinations in particular must then only be registered at the Examinations Office using the above-mentioned form.
To meet the deadline, please send an email to the Examinations Office immediately or submit the form "Application for admission to examinations" directly. Please also describe the problems so that we can adjust this for future registrations if necessary.
As a rule, homework certificates, internships etc. are missing here. In these cases, please also register on time using the form and note "missing homework" or clarify directly at the institute whether you have successfully completed the preliminary work.
Yes - once a homework certificate has been obtained, it remains valid as an admission requirement. However, if bonus points are awarded by the institute, these will generally only be taken into account in the examination immediately following. Please contact the relevant institute for the exact regulations!
Please contact the computer center.
Please contact the Examinations Office immediately by e-mail at pruefungsamt@tu-clausthal.de. You will immediately receive an emergency TAN to your TU e-mail address.
It is your responsibility to register and deregister in good time. This also includes, if necessary, obtaining a new password or a new TAN list (see above) in good time so that you can complete the online exam registration or deregistration. Late registrations or deregistrations for these reasons cannot be considered!
If the deadline expires, please send an e-mail to the Examinations Office as a precautionary measure to meet the deadline.
Yes, you can cancel your registration up to one week before the exam. This is usually possible via the examination system.
Examinations must be registered via the online examination system (study portal).
See a doctor immediately and submit the form "Withdrawal for health reasons / medical certificate for students (from WS 2022/2023)" to the Examinations Office no later than one week after the examination date.
Simple certificates of incapacity for work, prescriptions etc. will no longer be accepted for deregistration from SS 2022!
Please do not take the exam under any circumstances, as subsequent withdrawal is not possible!
Yes, because doctors are generally not allowed to issue certificates retroactively. If you only fell ill on Friday afternoon or Saturday, you would have to contact the GP emergency service.
You have three examination attempts for each subject examination. This applies in particular to conditional and additional examinations, as no free attempts are granted for these examinations. For examinations (compulsory and compulsory elective examinations), each first attempt within the standard period of study of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program is counted as a free attempt. The exact regulations can be found in the General Examination Regulations.
Partial module or module examinations that are taken for the first time during the standard period of study count as a free attempt. If this is passed, you may also have the opportunity to improve your grade.
Grade improvements are only possible if free attempts are passed (indicator: FBE = free attempt passed) in a maximum of 6 subjects.
No, the better grade remains in any case.
As a rule, the free attempt to improve your grades must be completed at the latest in the semester in which you complete the last achievement relevant to your studies (usually your thesis and colloquium). If you have already submitted your thesis, please register for the grade improvement in good time so that the final documents are not issued until after the grade improvement.
Yes - but this is only possible up to one week before the exam.
In urgent cases, it may be necessary for the examiner to postpone an appointment. In this case, the institute or examiner must inform the Examination Office. Otherwise the examination will be assessed as "failed".
As a rule, no benefits are possible. Further details can be found in the Clausthal University of Technology's matriculation regulations.
Exceptions may be possible in the following cases:
Leave ofabsence for the purpose of studying abroad - due to the overlapping of examination periods, you can take credits at Clausthal University of Technology in the semester on leave of absence up to a maximum of 12 credit points (new from WS 21/22).
Leave of absence for health reasons - in these cases it is advisable to seek advice from the Examinations Office.
Please note that during your leave of absence, you can only register for coursework and examinations by submitting a form to the Examinations Office. The application for admission to the examination also constitutes an application for exemption.
If you would like to apply for a transfer of an identical study and examination achievement within Clausthal University of Technology, please submit the corresponding form "Application for transfer of achievements completed at TUC".
The recognition procedure is described in detail here. You will also find all the necessary forms.
Due to performance assessments or the preparation of prognosis certificates, recognition must be applied for no later than two semesters after enrollment or, in the case of semesters abroad, two semesters after the performance has been achieved .
In addition, recognition is excluded if the examination was passed in a free attempt or if the application for the first attempt was made at Clausthal University of Technology.
Yes - however, these must be registered on a form for all degree programs. Additional examinations can only be subjects that are not specified as compulsory or compulsory elective subjects in the relevant degree programs for which students are enrolled.
This also applies to consecutive degree programs.
In order to avoid queries, it is helpful if you note on the registration form that it is an additional examination (ZP) or ask the Examinations Office in advance.
Yes, the rule applies here that coursework and examinations can be brought forward from a consecutive Master's degree program up to a maximum of 24 credit points (all types of courses apply here - including internships and seminars, etc.).
Registration for these examinations is only possible using the form "Application for admission to examinations". Please note that this is an early Master's examination (vzML).
Please only use your TU e-mail address to contact us. We also send information about your studies, queries about registration or refusal of admission to examinations via the TU e-mail addresses, so you are obliged to check this account regularly.
