Scholarships

Scholarships are granted by private foundations. Unlike BAföG funding, your eligibility for a scholarship is based not on your financial need but usually on either your academic achievements or your worth for a social and/or political cause. As a rule, scholarship funds do not need to be repaid. You can find an overview of all the foundations operating across Germany to provide university scholarships on the Studieren in Niedersachsenportal. That website will also tell you what conditions are attached to applications for each of the available scholarships.

Alongside these general university scholarships, there is a whole range of companies which offer scholarships for particular degree programs. Find out more on our page about scholarships from companies and foundations or from our Advisory Service.

International students also have the option of consulting the scholarship database maintained by the DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service.
