Bigband at the TU Clausthal e.V.
Clausthal University of Technology not only stands for research, teaching and knowledge transfer, but also for the promotion of culture in the Upper Harz and the region. In this sense, the symphony orchestra and the chamber choir have been an enrichment far beyond Clausthal-Zellerfeld for many years. In the 2017/2018 winter semester, another musical style was established at Clausthal University of Technology with the founding of the Big Band.
The group consists of around twenty musicians, primarily students and employees of Clausthal University of Technology, but also pupils from the Robert Koch School and musicians from the region. Under the direction of Domenic Eggers, a graduate of the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover, a varied program will be developed. Anyone who can play an instrument and enjoys music can take part without an entrance exam.
TU Clausthal Rock, Pop and Jazz Choir
The cultural offerings at Clausthal University of Technology are enhanced by the Rock, Pop and Jazz Choir, which was only founded in 2021 and rehearses modern songs from the rock, pop and jazz genres. The choir occasionally supports TU Clausthal's big band with its repertoire. The choir is made up of students and employees of Clausthal University of Technology as well as singing enthusiasts from Clausthal and the surrounding area. What the more than thirty singers have in common is the joy of singing modern choral pieces.
The choir is led by André Wenauer. André is a choir director, instrumental teacher and arranger of vocal music and band arrangements. He is a graduate of the "Jazz and Pop Choir Conducting Level B" course at the Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel, a juror at choir competitions and a lecturer in the field of "Jazz and Pop in Choirs" at the Lower Saxony Choral Association, the Lower Saxony-Bremen Choral Association and the Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel.
University choir
Since 2018, the chamber choir at Clausthal University of Technology has also been known as the Clausthal University Choir and has thus become an integral part of Clausthal University of Technology, which sees itself as an important cultural institution in the Harz region. The approximately forty members - students, employees of the TU, but also citizens from Clausthal-Zellerfeld and the surrounding area - develop a concert program every semester. The choir also performs at university ceremonies.
In its concerts, the choir works with well-known soloists and established ensembles such as the Göttingen Baroque Orchestra and the Wernigerode Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Guest appearances at the Chortage Hannover and external concert venues complement the choir's activities. These include the Imperial Palace in Goslar, Sondershausen Castle, Michaelstein Monastery and the cathedrals in Halberstadt and Bad Gandersheim. Last but not least, the University Choir promotes Clausthal as a university location through its supra-regional cultural commitment. Rehearsals and concerts take place in cooperation with the Chamber Choir at Clausthal University of Technology, which has been holding regular concerts since 1985. Rehearsals are open to interested singers at any time. The choir's work is enriched by professional voice training
TU Clausthal Symphony Orchestra
The ensemble was founded in 1960 as the chamber orchestra of Clausthal University of Technology. We have been playing under the direction of Rainer Klugkist since 2002. In 2005 we changed our name to the Clausthal University of Technology Symphony Orchestra due to the growth of the ensemble.
The orchestra consists of students and employees of the TU, but also musicians from the surrounding area. We rehearse once a week in the TU Clausthal auditorium. From time to time, technical and musical details are fine-tuned in separate string and wind rehearsals, sometimes with the support of professional instrumentalists. On a rehearsal weekend shortly before the concert dates, we finally bring the works to final maturity.
In addition to the end-of-semester concerts, members of the orchestra also perform at university and city celebrations. Through a collaboration with the Hanover University of Music and Drama, we offer graduates the opportunity to take their concert examinations during our concerts.
