The Institute of Sport at Clausthal University of Technology offers a wide range of courses in around 60 different sports. In addition, there are sports science courses in the applied subject of sport and technology in the Master's degree course in computer science, in the Bachelor's degree course in sports engineering or as a specialization in biomechanics in the degree course in mechanical engineering.
Due to the impressive nature of the Harz Mountains, various outdoor sports have a special appeal in addition to the numerous indoor offers. In winter, for example, there are opportunities for cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding. Biathlon can also be tried out. In summer, cross-country skiing, climbing, mountain biking, sailing and white-water kayaking are on the program, as are tennis, beach volleyball and hiking. Boats and equipment for windsurfing or stand-up paddling and much more can be hired from the TU-Bootshaus, idyllically situated on the Oker reservoir.
Soccer fans get their money's worth in the TUC soccer league in the summer semester. Highlights include the annual Clausthal campus run and the summer sports festival as well as internal university championships. In addition to the practical sports activities on offer, sports instructors can attend the general sports theory lecture. It is recognized by the Goslar District Sports Association as part of the Trainer C course for popular sports.
