Outstanding projects, strategic research collaborations and research networks
Particularly noteworthy research collaborations and projects at Clausthal University of Technology often work on an interdisciplinary basis with external partners from science and industry. The research objectives are generally defined for the long term and are set within a broader research framework than individual and joint projects with a more clearly defined time and target horizon. This includes our memberships in research networks and research associations as well as participation in special research areas and research groups or in graduate and doctoral programs. The Clausthal Research Centers, which coordinate and carry out interdisciplinary research projects internally, also play a special role.
DFG Collaborative Research Centers
Collaborative Research Centres (SFB) and Transregios (TRR) funded by the German Research Foundation(DFG) are long-term research institutions at universities in which scientists work together as part of an interdisciplinary research program. Collaborative Research Centers are currently funded by the DFG for a maximum of twelve years (three times four years). Clausthal University of Technology institutes are involved in the following active or recently completed Collaborative Research Centers:
DFG Research Units
The German Research Foundation(DFG) defines research groups (FOR) as close working alliances of several outstanding scientists who work together on a research task. In terms of the thematic, temporal and financial scope, the research projects go far beyond the funding opportunities within the framework of individual funding under the standard or priority procedure. Since 2018, research groups have been funded by the DFG for a maximum of eight years (twice four years). Clausthal University of Technology institutes are involved in the following active or recently completed research groups:
Graduate and doctoral programs
The DFG describes Research Training Groups as "institutions of higher education for the promotion of early career researchers, which focus on the qualification of doctoral candidates within the framework of a thematically focused research program and a structured qualification concept". Clausthal University of Technology currently has the following internally or externally funded doctoral colleges, e.g. by the DFG or the EU:
