The Chair of Petroleum Reservoir Technologies at Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to fill a position as a
Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(pay grade 13 TV-L)
initially limited until 29.02.2028 in full-time. The position offers the opportunity to work towards a doctorate at Clausthal University of Technology. The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
Research at the Chair of Petroleum Reservoir Technologies focuses on the reservoir engineering aspects of underground gas and energy storage facilities, geothermal systems and petroleum production systems. The multiphase flow processes through porous rock layers coupled with chemical, microbiological and thermal processes play an important role here. These processes and the interactions between them are investigated at the Chair on various scales using both experimental work in the laboratory and numerical simulation studies.
As part of an EU-funded research project, simulation models for microbial processes in pore reservoirs are to be developed. Both laboratory and field scales are taken into account in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relevant flow and reaction processes in porous reservoir rock. In close cooperation with microbiological research laboratories and reservoir operators, experimental data is collected and used to calibrate and further develop the models. The focus is on mapping microbial activity under real storage conditions and on interactions with transport and mixing processes in the rock. The aim is to be able to evaluate the suitability of pore storage systems for the storage of hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas mixtures.
Your core tasks are
- Participation in the further development of numerical simulation models for microbial processes in pore storage facilities based on DuMux (field scale)
- Development and application of own Python codes for mapping microbial processes on a laboratory scale
- Participation in the development of mathematical models for the description of coupled flow, transport and microbiological processes during underground hydrogen storage
- Verification, calibration and validation of the simulation models by comparing them with experimental laboratory data in close cooperation with microbiological partner laboratories
- Reporting and publication of research results as well as participation in the acquisition of new funding
You bring with you:
- An above-average Master's degree (or equivalent) in petroleum engineering, natural sciences, applied mathematics or related engineering programs.
- Very good command of the English language.
- A high degree of independence, scientific creativity and analytical skills.
- Knowledge or experience in numerical mathematics, programming skills or in the use of the open source simulator DuMux is desirable.
We offer:
- An exciting challenge in researching a future-oriented technology,
- Integration into the "Flow and Transport in Underground Storage Systems" working group with optimal opportunities for further scientific training,
- An open and appreciative working atmosphere in the exciting and forward-looking working environment of a technical university at the interface between research, teaching, administration and ministry,
- A collectively agreed salary in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L), as well as an annual special payment at the end of the year in accordance with the TV-L and a separate supplementary pension as a company pension (VBL),
- Family-friendly working conditions (e.g. flexible working hours, childcare facilities, part-time employment),
- All the advantages of employment in the public sector.
Clausthal University of Technology supports the compatibility of career and family through flexible working time models within the scope of official possibilities and is a member of the university association "Family in the University".
Equality in all its facets, equal opportunities, diversity and family friendliness are important to Clausthal University of Technology. People with disabilities will be given priority if they are suitable. Appropriate proof must be enclosed.
