as a doctoral candidate for the Machine Learning & COgnitive SoftwaRE research group at the Goslar campus. The position is full-time, but is generally suitable for part-time work.

Our Machine Learning & Cognitive Software research group (https://www.isse.tu-clausthal.de/forschung/forschungsgruppen/machine-learning-and-cognitive-software) at the Institute for Software Systems Engineering (ISSE) at Clausthal University of Technology in Goslar combines basic research with practical applications. Our aim is to design and further develop modern architectures and engineering methods for future AI systems. In the coming months, we will be starting several large third-party funded projects, in particular on generative AI, AI architectures for large language models and reinforcement learning. We are looking for motivated new team members who want to join us in our research.
Our team consists of nine dedicated scientists who work together in a collegial and dynamic environment. We conduct research together with internationally active companies such as Bosch, BASF, Daimler, Roche, SAP and Siemens, as well as with founders of innovative start-ups and SMEs. The topics of our research projects range from automated driving and medical robotics to 5G, sustainable circular economy, CO₂ reduction in the energy industry and logistics and trading systems.
We are looking for applicants with a very good Master's degree in computer science, mathematics or a related field. You should be interested in a scientific career or in working in industrial research at a later stage. The ability to work in a team, scientific curiosity and a very good command of German and English are particularly important to us.
The position will start as soon as possible in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). The position is project-related and initially limited until 31.12.2026, an extension within the project duration is possible. The work location is hybrid, mobile work is partially possible. In addition, we support research stays with international scientists during the doctoral period, which can last between one and six months.

Remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states
(TV-L). The TV-L provides for an annual special payment at the end of the year. In addition, we offer a separate supplementary pension scheme in the form of a company pension (VBL).
