Promoting talent: TU Clausthal awards Germany Scholarships 2024

26 young people were honored for their academic and social achievements with the Deutschlandstipendium. Numerous sponsors support the scholarship.

"You will help shape the future together. You will all help to find solutions to the challenges of our time," said University President Dr. Sylvia Schattauer, congratulating the scholarship holders and their sponsors. The Deutschlandstipendium is an important support for the promotion of young talent at Clausthal University of Technology. This was also underlined by Prof. Christian Bohn, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, who presented the certificates together with the President. As a former scholarship holder, he knew: "A scholarship can make a lasting difference to your life."

Student commitment pays off

The scholarship holders and their sponsors came together at the Clausthal-Zellerfeld start-up center for the award ceremony and got to know each other personally. The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship was awarded for the fifth time at Clausthal University of Technology. 26 students can now look forward to a monthly payment of 300 euros for a period of one year.

The Deutschlandstipendium is an initiative of the Federal Government to support particularly high-achieving students. The new scholarship holders had applied in advance and were selected by a jury led by Prof. Gunther Brenner, Clausthal University of Technology's scholarship officer, and Dr. Georg Ebertshäuser, Head of the Study Center. In addition to excellent academic performance, social commitment and social criteria were also taken into account when selecting the recipients.

Mayor Petra Emmerich-Kopatsch was also impressed by the students' achievements in her welcoming address: "The town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld is proud of its scholarship holders. Renowned sponsors believe in you!" Perhaps they will have the opportunity to set up their own company in the town and district start-up center on the university campus.

Funding is an investment in the future

Half of the funding for the Deutschlandstipendium comes from the federal government. The rest of the funding is provided by companies and private sponsors. This year's sponsors include A. Kayser Automotive Systems, ALD Vacuum Technologies, Berufsbildungswerk Philipp Jakob Wieland, ExxonMobil Production Deutschland, H. Butting GmbH & Co KG, Hans-Joachim Tessner Stiftung, Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann, N&H Technology, Siemens Mobility, Stiftung Stahlwerk Georgsmarienhütte, Taniobis, Sparkasse Hildesheim Goslar Peine and Volksbank im Harz. In addition, the graduate engineers Frank Stoffregen and Karl-Heinz Sauermann are also private individuals who sponsor scholarships. It is particularly important to the two TU alumni to support talented people: "This is how we invest in the future," says Sauermann.

Following the award ceremony, which was accompanied by music from the Big Band's saxophone ensemble, sponsors and recipients were able to exchange ideas at a champagne reception. Students interested in founding a company were also able to gain inspiration during a tour of the start-up center. Joschka Röben, a former TU student, showed the premises of his company, which specializes in the reproduction of spare parts for historic and modern cars using 3D printers, as an example. According to center manager Samet Kibar, who facilitated and supported the event, around 60 percent of the start-up center is currently occupied by spin-offs from Clausthal University of Technology.

Students and sponsors benefit

Andrea Langhorst (Alumni Management) conceived the awarding of the Deutschlandstipendium. She is the contact person for companies and private individuals who would like to get involved in the funding. Since the first round in 2019, well over 100 students at Clausthal University of Technology have benefited from the scholarship. And there are also advantages for the sponsors: they come into contact with the specialists and managers of tomorrow at an early stage.

For the next funding period 2024/25, Clausthal University of Technology is asking interested sponsors to support the scholarship financially. Donors will receive a corresponding certificate and will be listed on the university's homepage with their consent.
