Germany Scholarships Awarded
Clausthal University of Technology is hosting a ceremony to thank its sponsors. For the students, the scholarship is also a mark of distinction on their résumés.
More than 20 sponsors are supporting 34 Clausthal students with a Germany Scholarship during the current funding period. Through the federal government’s public-private scholarship program, the students receive 300 euros per month. The certificates were presented during a virtual ceremony.
During the current one-year funding period, the scholarships at Clausthal University of Technology are primarily financed by regional and national companies. Their representatives also used the virtual ceremony to get to know the supported bachelor’s and master’s students. The scholarship offers companies the opportunity to establish a presence at the university. For students, in turn, it opens the door to initial professional exchanges with companies or alumni across disciplinary boundaries.
Around 60 people participated in the digital event. It was organized by Andrea Langhorst (Alumni Management at TU Clausthal), who also serves as the point of contact for the sponsors. It was important to her to involve the scholarship recipients in the preparation of the event, whether by creating quiz questions about Clausthal University of Technology, through musical performances, or by submitting short videos. Jannik Dietl (Multimedia Department of the Computer Center) compiled these into an entertaining film.
A total of 34 ambitious, dedicated Clausthal students from Germany and abroad are receiving support in the current cycle. They were selected by a committee involving the Study Center led by Dr. Georg Ebertshäuser. In addition to academic performance, the selection process took into account volunteer and social engagement as well as special challenges encountered during their educational journey. One scholarship recipient writes about the scholarship: “It makes life easier and changes it.”
More than 20 sponsors
Prof. Christian Bohn, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Prof. Gunther Brenner, TU representative for the Germany Scholarship, congratulated the scholarship recipients. Both also recognized the commitment of the sponsors. This year’s sponsors include: Clausthal professors Hans-Peter Beck and Michael Jischa, the Lions Club Goslar-Bad Harzburg, the companies Dyckerhoff, Martin Christ Gefriertrocknungsanlagen, Ottobock, Taniobis, Siemens Mobility Braunschweig, Sympatec, SAG Projekt, and Baubetreuungs-GmbH, the Hans-Joachim Tessner Foundation, and the Association of Friends of the TU. In addition, there are companies founded by TU alumni such as Nanosil and N&H Technology, alumnus Frank Stoffregen, as well as Wirtschaftsbetriebe Osterode, Sparkasse Hildesheim Goslar Peine, Volksbank im Harz, and the Philipp Jakob Wieland Vocational Training Center. Smaller contributions from individual alumni also added up to fund a scholarship.
TU Clausthal has been participating in the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s Germany Scholarship program for several years. A prerequisite for participation is that the university must first secure sponsors from the business community, the alumni network, or private individuals who donate a one-time sum of 1,800 euros toward a scholarship. The ministry then doubles this donation amount.
