Information about Open Rank

The Open Rank procedure is intended to appeal to experienced applicants who are paid at W3 level. However, promising applicants at the beginning of their career should also be given a chance (W2 salary). The following criteria in particular will be used by the appointment committee:

In the case of a W2 appointment, the successful applicant is expected to have an established reputation in research based on their own excellent research. Collaborations and collaborations have made a positive contribution to the development of knowledge, research and development. Identification of research problems and opportunities within the field and own research methods and approaches are expected. High quality publications are available and he/she has experience in acquiring external funding and is active in national and/or international research networks. He/she is able to establish research collaborations within academia and/or with industry, has very good communication skills and has an innovative approach to research. The successful candidate has already gained experience in the independent teaching of courses at various levels of difficulty, which has been positively evaluated.

In the case of a W3 appointment, the successful candidate is also expected to have an international reputation based on broad-based excellent research activity. He/she will shape scientific debates, make a significant contribution to one or more research fields and have a strategic vision for the future of the research area. He/she has demonstrable excellence in the acquisition and management of research projects, strong leadership skills and plans a convincing development of his/her research team. In particular, he/she has experience in building a strong research group and in successfully supervising PhD students. Excellent national and international networking skills are available. A proven track record in securing significant research funding is required. Extensive teaching experience with positive evaluation is available. A concept for an attractive teaching program is available, which is embedded in the teaching at Clausthal University of Technology in terms of content and methodology and is open to further development.
