Study credits/long-term study fees

The study credit is regulated by § 12 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).

According to this, every student has a study credit for the Bachelor's program, which is calculated from the number of semesters of the standard period of study of the Bachelor's program plus six additional semesters.

For a consecutive Master's degree program, the study credit increases by the number of semesters of the standard period of study for this degree program.

As long as one has not used up the study credit, one does not pay a long-term study fee.

§ Section 12 paragraph 3 NHG regulates in which semesters the study credit is not used up.

When calculating the study credit, all university semesters spent in Germany must be taken into account, regardless of whether the respective study program was completed or not.

If you were enrolled abroad or at a private university in Germany before enrolling at Clausthal University of Technology, the previous semesters are not taken into account. For the Master's program, the study credit then results from twice the standard period of study of the Master's program.
