All oral and written examinations must be registered via the online examination system (study portal). In the case of oral examinations, please inform your responsible administrator by e-mail of the specific date, stating your personal data (matriculation number, name, course of study, examination, examiner).
-
As soon as you meet the admission requirements for the thesis (these can be found in your implementation regulations; for Master's theses, any conditional examinations must also be successfully completed) and have discussed a suitable topic with your first supervisor, please register at the Examinations Office using the form"Application for admission to the thesis".
If you would like to write an external thesis, please also read the information on: "What do I have to consider when writing an external thesis".
Your application for admission will be checked as soon as possible at the Examinations Office.
If admission is possible, the thesis will be registered in the examination system and a separate form will be sent to your first assessor to inform them of the topic, submission deadline and second assessor.
Once the form has been received back from the institute, you will then receive the official letter of admission by email with all the important information (you should also read this urgently).
-
An "external" thesis is when the thesis is completed in a company.
If you are a student from the Mechanical/Process Engineering Study Commission, you must apply for an external thesis separately in advance. To do this, please submit the form"Application for the preparation of an external thesis by the Study Commission for Mechanical and Process Engineering" to the Examinations Office . You may only start your thesis once your application has been approved. Please also note that an external thesis (Bachelor's or Master's thesis) is only permitted once (see decisions of the Examination Board).
Students from other degree programs do not have to apply separately for an external thesis. In this case, it is sufficient to submit the"Application for Admission to Thesis".
Please note that external theses are generally assessed and evaluated by your two chosen TU Clausthal supervisors. This means that the supervisors assigned by the company cannot issue a grade. The supervisors must also have at least the qualification you are aiming for with your thesis (i.e. Bachelor's or Master's degree).

If you can provide evidence of valid reasons, you should first clarify with your first assessor whether they agree to an extension. If consent has been given, please submit an application for an extension to the Examinations Office.
If you are affected by the maximum duration of study, please clarify this immediately with your administrator at the Examinations Office to find out what options are available in your case.
-
Please submit the following form immediately (but no later than 1 week after the certificate has been issued):"Withdrawal for health reasons / Medical certificate for students (from WS 2022/2023)" to the Examinations Office.
The Examination Board will check whether and to what extent the period of illness (taking into account the symptoms) can be counted towards the extension of the submission deadline.
Please note that illnesses claimed retroactivelycannot be taken into account!
Illnesses shortly before the submission deadline cannot usually be taken into account either. In such cases, please contact your examination office directly.
-
Once you have completed your thesis, please take care of the binding work. You can arrange for your thesis to be bound in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, e.g. at ASTA, Papierflieger or Papierflitzer. Of course, you can also use any other provider.

You can submit the bound version(s) of your thesis to the Examinations Office during office hours or by prior appointment. Please also bring the completed supplementary sheet with you for submission. Please arrange appointments in advance by telephone or e-mail with the Examinations Office.

At present, only examinations (online), oral examinations (online and registration at the examination office) and the final thesis (by form) have to be registered.
Certificates of achievement only have to be registered in the examination system if they have to be taken in the form of a written or oral examination.

In these cases, please also register in due time using the form "Antrag auf Zulassung zu Prüfungen". Especially in the months of April/May and October/November, the online exam registration is temporarily not available due to system or exam period changes. Oral examinations in particular must then be registered exclusively using the above-mentioned form in the Examinations Office.

For each subject examination one has three examination attempts. This applies in particular to conditional and additional examinations, as no free attempts are granted for these examinations. For examinations (compulsory and elective examinations), each first attempt within the standard period of study of a bachelor's or master's degree program is counted as a free attempt. Please refer to the General Examination Regulations for the exact regulations.
-
As a rule, the free attempt for grade improvement must be completed at the latest in the semester in which you complete the last performance relevant to your studies (usually thesis and colloquium). If you have already submitted the final thesis, please register for the grade improvement in good time so that the final documents, if applicable, are not issued until after the grade improvement.
