PhD or postdoctoral researcher position (m/f/d)

The group of Prof. Sabine Beuermann at the Institute of Technical Chemistry at Clausthal University of Technology invites applications for a

PhD or postdoctoral researcher position (all genders welcome)

available for three years. The salary level is E 13 TV-L. Depending on the applicant’s career stage the position is either full time (postdoctoral researcher) or part time (PhD researcher with MSc degree in Chemistry of Engineering).

Research at the Institute of Technical Chemistry is directed towards various aspects of sustainable polymer chemistry, including polymerization experiments, advanced polymer characterization, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, and the application of Machine Learning methods in cooperation with computer scientist. We are looking for a new team member for the project „A new bio-based circular production route for molecularly tailored polyethylene pom-pom contributing to closed and defossilized material cycles in polyolefin industry“ funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.

Your tasks:

• Research in an interdisciplinary project on recycling of polymers
• Kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations of ionic polymerizations
• In-line monitoring of ionic polymerizations with spectroscopic methods
• Correlation of microstructural information from experiments and modeling with polymer properties
• Setting-up a reactor concept for preparation of functional polymers with the project partners

Your profile:

• MSc. in chemistry or engineering related to polymers
• Interested in modeling of chemical reactions
• Experiences with C++ and Python are advantageous
• Very good command of the English language and willingness to learn German
• For postdoctoral researchers: PhD in a relevant field

Remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). The TV-L provides for a special annual payment at the end of the year. In addition, we offer a separate supplementary pension scheme in the form of a company pension (VBL).
