University Council

Alongside the President’s Office and the Senate, the University Council is one of TU Clausthal’s three central bodies. It has seven members, at least three of whom should be women: five people familiar with the arena of higher education who are not members of the university but work in business, science, or the arts and are appointed to TU Clausthal by the relevant government ministry in liaison with the university’s Senate; one member of the university elected by its Senate; and one representative of the Ministry for Science and Culture. The University Council operates on a voluntary basis and is not bound by taskings or instructions.

The President’s Office attends the meetings of the University Council in an advisory capacity; one representative of the student body, the Equal Opportunities Officer, and one member of the Staff Council generally participate in an advisory role.

The responsibilities of the University Council include advising the President’s Office and the Senate; giving its opinion on the economic and development plans, the establishment of or involvement in enterprises, draft agreements on objectives, and Senate proposals to appoint or designate members of the President’s Office; and confirming Senate proposals to dismiss members of the President’s Office. The seven members serve for four years at a time and can be appointed for repeat terms.
