The study of business administration is concerned with describing, explaining, and supporting decision-making processes in commercial enterprises. It encompasses operations management, materials management and logistics, marketing, corporate accounting, investment and capital budgeting, and corporate governance. The bachelor’s degree in business administration is designed to turn out responsible men and women with managerial skills who are good at seeing the bigger picture and at bringing scientific concepts to bear in real-life situations.
The job market is consistently good for economics and management graduates. Successful completion of TU Clausthal’s bachelor’s degree in business administration opens up the possibility of jobs requiring basic business expertise. Starter jobs can include middle-management or operational positions in a broad range of areas within a company. Completing the follow-on master’s degree in technical management enables graduates to choose careers in research or to assume senior management roles in the private sector.

At TU Clausthal, we place great value on teaching the methodological foundations of decision-making in business. That sound basic training in business administration is complemented by instruction in mathematics, IT, and statistics, which are of particular importance given the predominance, in this degree program, of management courses that require quantitative reasoning. The program is intended to teach knowledge and skills that enable students to think analytically, focus on problems objectively, and continue to add to their qualifications throughout their careers. Next to the attentive support that students receive, this degree program is distinguished by the large number of tutorials accompanying the lecture series as well as by innovative teaching strategies.
The compulsory elements of the program are, on the directly management-related side, one foundation module with two introductory courses, six core modules in business administration, and two in economics. The indirectly connected core subjects include mathematics, statistics, and business information systems. Students also attend a seminar and learn business English as well as aspects of law. Over and above that compulsory program, there are three elective modules in which students can specialize in their chosen subject matter and methodologies. The program ends with a practical module comprising an eight-week industrial placement and a business-simulation game, and completion of a bachelor’s thesis.
